The Uganda Exports
Promotions Board:
Background was established in 1996 by
parliamentary statute as a public trade
promotions organization to facilitate
the development, promotion, and coordination
of all export related activities towards
export growth on a sustainable basis.
Uganda export promotions board operates
under the ministry of tourism, trade
and industry and is guided by a board
of directors with representation from
the private and the public sectors closely
linked to export development activities.
The exporters at Uganda exports promotions
board mainly target group and all programmes
and services are tailored to their needs.
Functions of
the Uganda Exports Promotion Board:
• Market research and development.
For companies to succeed in today’s
dynamic global economy, developments
and changes in international trade have
to be closely monitored. UEPB assumes
this role and in addition assists and
advises exporters in identifying diversifying
their markets through research and development
activities. Typical market development
activities include market research studies,
surveys and navigations and promotion
programs to targeted markets.
• We ensure product development adaptation
and promotion.
Product development, adaption and promotion
constitute a vital part of introducing
Uganda’s exports to foreign buyers.
UEPB has initiated and adopted policies
and action programs in partnership with
Government departments and development
partners, to assist partners in areas
of product identification and, improvement
and packaging at firm level. Interventions
are also tailored to improve post harvest
handling, standards, sanitary issues
at sector level, in a bid to enhance
exports and Uganda’s competitive edge.
• Export development skills though
human resource training and development
programs.
UEPB considers human resource development
as crucial for export development and
training programs have been designed
in collaboration with development partners
and consultancy firms for exporters
in areas of export certification, exbition
management, value chain analysis etc.
• Trade information and export data
delivery services.
Influenced by the rapid developments
in information and communication technologies
world wide, UEPB has continued to improve
information services to address the
information needs of exporters. At the
trade information center is a library
with data on international trade, sector
reports, business journals and market
information publications, both local
electronic and hard copy.
• UEPB also collates, analyses and
provides export performance data with
emphasis on nontraditional exports by
product, country, volume and value in
collaboration with key partner agencies
such as the International Trade Centre
(ITC).
